Post Surgery

The Lord has blessed us.

Jack's surgery went well; however, we were thrown a curve ball in the 9th inning.  We were informed that there was an additional option, that we were unaware of until that moment.  A complete ray re-section might not be needed, only removing the finger up to the last knuckle would be a better option that would give Jack better function of his hand and still maintain the clear margins the doctors were looking for.  Only after they were inside Jack's hand the surgeon's would decide.  Jack had already been given a bit of medicine to relax him.  I sat there stunned as this other surgeon that was going to be working along side Dr. Eckardt, explained this new option to us.  I had maintained my strength for Jack but I think this last minute "choice" was too much.  We had our private moment together, made a call to Dr. Federman, Jack's Pediatric Oncologist, who then spoke to Dr. Eckardt.  After praying, Jack said if there was a choice, that of course he wanted only his finger removed up to the last knuckle; however, if the doctor's saw something else once inside he trusted their decision.

The surgery lasted about 45 minutes and Jack did AWESOME.  The surgeons only removed the right ring finger up to the last knuckle so they didn't have to re-size his palm.  Jack stayed 1 night at the hospital, but had 2 guests.  Best friend Andrew, and mom.  Andrew kept Jack busy playing Wii and in the morning ordered breakfast for him.

Jack was discharged Saturday morning, and like any good mom would do, I found the perfect photo opportunity.

Saturday night Jack had 3 of his buddies sleep over.  They stayed up quite late playing video games.  The numbing medicine has worn off so Jack can feel his middle and pinkie finger but doesn't feel any pain.

Please continue to pray for Jack's healing.  He plans to return to school either Monday or Tuesday but will need to make adjustments since he is right handed.  Pathology report is due back by the end of this week.

Jack wants to remind everyone about his Bracelet Fundraiser $2.00 each.
