Treatment Recommendation

Jack's appointment with Dr. Federman to hear the recommendations of the tumor board was Monday, November 22nd.

What is known of Synovial Sarcoma is that the tumor will not travel from one place to another in the body, other than to the lungs.  However, if the tumor re-appears, it will quickly matastisize and it becomes extremely difficult to treat.

After confirming the diagnosis of Synovial Sarcoma, reviewing the many tests performed on Jack, and conferring with the tumor board, Dr. Federman recommended the removal of Jack's right ring finger.  The procedure is called ray re-section.  We will not know until after surgery if radiation therapy is needed.  Jack's pre-op appointment is December 1st, and surgery will be 1-2 weeks after that.  The surgery will be performed by Dr. Eckardt, and Dr. Benheim at the UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital - Santa Monica, see link under "Jack's Doctors".

We feel so blessed to have so many supporting Jack.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.

  3. Well, hate to read that the ring finger will have to be lost but glad to read that the process may be stopped with this surgery. I hope that the lungs remain clear and that the surgery is effective and that is the end of this saga.
Hope Jack continues to get better and will keep myself posted on the results.
